These standards were due for review and are intended to support programmes leading to:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Pre-Trade (Level 3) [Ref: 4316]
  • New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Trade (Level 4) [Ref: 4204] with strands in General Electrician, and Electricity Supply

Stakeholders were consulted by Skills Organisation.  Responsibility for these standards and their review were transferred from Skills Organisation to Waihanga Ara Rau in October 2021.

The new unit standards are fit for purpose, current, and relevant to the Electrical Engineering industry.

Changes

  • Guidance information updated to align with current legislation.
  • The standard setting body changed to Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council.
  • A new suite of 44 unit standards were developed based on the competency framework to train electrical apprentices.
  • Three unit standards have minor changes.

34 unit standards are designated expiring.

A copy of the review Change Report and new versions of the documents were published on the NZQA website in March 2022.
