Plumbing training

what's new and what's reviewed

What's included in this part of the project

This part of the development and review includes:

  • the review of the New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing
  • the review and development of the unit standards listed in the table below
  • the development of guidance information to support the design of programmes that will meet industry and ākonga (learner) needs.

The process we followed

We worked closely with our Technical Advisory Group to update and develop the qualification and standards. The outcomes have also been informed by our Strategic Reference Group, as well as extensive consultation carried out with the sector to identify opportunities to improve training for the PGD sector.

The new qualification graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) have been reviewed and align to the PGD Board’s recently consulted and updated competencies.

We're seeking feedback about

  • the updated qualification
  • the standards we’ve reviewed (the ones with hyperlinks in the table below)
  • the guidance information that will support the design of programmes.

How this information is presented

We’re presenting this information to show how the proposed qualification outcomes, standards and supporting information fit together to form the framework for the updated apprenticeship.

The information in the table below adds detail to the framework:

  • Proposed Graduate Profile Outcomes – these high-level statements describe what a graduate of the qualification will know, do and be. These have been updated to reflect the updated programme framework.
  • Proposed unit standards – these are the standards ākonga (learners) will need to achieve to meet the graduate outcomes, and ultimately the qualification. We’ve updated existing standards to ensure they reflect current knowledge and skills. We’ve also developed new standards where required.
  • Indicative content – this is information about key knowledge and skills related to the unit standard.
  • Learning guidance – this is information about key learning that industry experts think ākonga should be exposed to during their apprenticeship to support their skills and practical understanding. This could happen at work or through structured learning opportunities like block courses.
  • Assessment guidance – this is information about how industry expects this unit standard to be assessed.
