Transformational Assurance Plan – Māhere Whakaahua Aromātairua 23 June 2023 We’re transforming moderation beyond the traditional compliance-centric process and looking at the systems and practices providers use to evaluate and continually improve their learning provision and performance. This means that ākonga, providers, and industry have even more confidence in the vocational education and training system outcomes. ‘Profiling’ a provider is key to getting there. Each ‘Provider Profile’ is unique to the provider it has been developed for. Moreover, it is a ‘living’ document which grows collaboratively through Waihanga Ara Rau and provider input. A ‘Provider Profiles’ pilot was initiated in early February, officially marking the Assurance Team’s 2023 Assurance Transformation Plan launch. Six providers were involved. With the first round of visits having now been completed, we’re learning: A lot more about providers. Achievement data is uncovering a clearer picture of ākonga progression and success. What’s more, discussions around self-assurance are highlighting just how robust providers’ systems and processes are. A lot more about ourselves. Whilst providers in the pilot were largely positive about our approach, some told us we need to ‘streamline’ preparation requirements for them. And our own self-assurance is telling us we’re not going to get everything sewn up after the first visit – focus areas take time to reach and agree on. In true ako fashion, we’re learning alongside our providers. We’re applying these learnings as we roll out our Transformation Plan nationally. The progressive inclusion of more providers into the Plan is now well and truly underway. Alongside this, pre-assessment moderation, consent to assess, and programme endorsement processes are operating as usual.
