Industrial Measurement and Control

skill standards development and review of qualification

Skill standards developed!

Waihanga Ara Rau worked with Industrial Measurement and Control industry representatives and providers to replace the existing unit standards with skill standards.

The following set of skill standards are intended for use in programmes leading to the practical qualification:

  1. Install and commission measuring instruments in industrial systems.
  2. Maintain pressure measuring instruments.
  3. Maintain level measuring instruments.
  4. Maintain temperature measuring instruments.
  5. Maintain flow measuring instruments.
  6. Maintain actuators and positioners.
  7. Install and service pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
  8. Test a PID controller and monitor control loops.
  9. Diagnose and correct faults in industrial measurement and control systems.
  10. Maintain measuring and control systems and components.

Qualification reviewed

To ensure the newly developed skill standards would align with the qualification outcomes, the New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) (Level 4) [Ref: 2251] was reviewed by the Industrial Measurement and Control industry representatives and providers.

The group agreed the strategic purpose statement and most of the qualification outcomes remained fit for purpose. One outcome was modified to extend identification of risks to a broader range of areas.
