Strategic Reference Groups

Te Rōpū Whakamahere Rautaki

The strategic voice of industry.

Strategic Reference Groups (SRGs) are one type of industry group we have established as mandated in our Order in Council. The primary purpose of SRGs is to offer strategic advice on workforce requirements and provide counsel to the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for their respective sectors. SRGs differ from Technical Advisory Groups and Tactical/Partnership Groups, which generally have a more technical and/or project-oriented focus.

Waihanga Ara Rau Strategic Reference Groups represent specific sectors and consist of representatives from industry, industry associations, regulators, and providers. The formation of Māori & Pacific SRGs is currently underway, with distinct coverage criteria. For instance, the Māori SRG plans to seek nominations from iwi for their representatives.

Leading the SRGs internally are members of our Engagement and Partnerships Team (owners) and GMs (sponsors).
