Waihanga Ara Rau and Toitū Te Waiora Workforce Development Councils reviewed Asbestos Removal unit standards.

2138 – Demonstrate knowledge of asbestos and safety procedures (L2)

29765 – Remove non-friable asbestos (L4)

29766 – Remove friable asbestos (L4)

29767 – Supervise asbestos removal (L5)

29768 – Conduct asbestos assessment associated with removal (L6)

Summary of changes

This review provided an opportunity for stakeholders to make sure the unit standards remain relevant to the current needs of the industry following a request from WorkSafe.

  • Removal of reference to the Australian unit of competency CPCCDE3015A in Guidance Information.
  • Iterative changes to other Guidance Information text and references.

29767   Supervise asbestos removal (Level 5, 2 credits)

  • Revised wording removing specific reference to Class A and Class B supervisors in the Prerequisites section.
  • Removal of reference to the Australian unit of competency CPCCBC4051A in Guidance Information.
  • Iterative changes to other Guidance Information text and references.
  • Change to wording in Performance Criterion 2.8 to remove ‘ensure’, in that ensuring health monitoring is the responsibility of the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (‘PCBU’), and not the Assessor.
