Strengthening the foundation of flooring qualifications

We’re working with industry representatives and a training provider to develop skill standards for the flooring sector. These skill standards will enhance the current suite of flooring qualifications by supporting new training options, giving greater flexibility to learners and allowing seamless transitions for learners working towards flooring qualifications.

The new skill standards will lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Flooring Installation. The skill standards collectively lead to the qualification but are also designed to support introductory programmes leading to apprenticeships (for example, Allied Trades Institute’s  Introduction to Flooring Installation) and the development of future micro-credentials. Some skill standards are also designed to be transferable between flooring trades qualifications, which will give learners the flexibility to change their area of specialty without starting from scratch.

This project is a great example of how we can use our qualification development role to deliver for industry. We’re supporting better pathways for learners and industry, recognising transferable skills, and working closely with industry and education providers to make sure that qualifications deliver the skills industry needs.
