The Waihanga Ara Rau Workforce Development Council will be closing operations from 19 December, and disestablished from 31 December 2025. The Energy and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board; Construction and Specialist Trades Industry Skills Board; Electrotechnology and Information Technology Industry Skills Board will pick up its functions.

Supporting industry through change

As New Zealand’s vocational education system transitions, Waihanga Ara Rau remains committed to supporting the construction and infrastructure industry, our key stakeholders, and our people.

The Government has announced changes that will replace Workforce Development Councils (WDCs) with Industry Skills Boards (ISBs). Further consultation is underway on the future of work-based learning. While these changes take shape, we focus on delivering value to the industry and ensuring a smooth transition.

We encourage industry partners to stay engaged in the process. The presentation we shared at our recent webinar provides more details about the proposed models for work-based learning and consultation timelines.

Waihanga Ara Rau will continue to advocate for industry needs and support those affected by these changes.
