Electrical Supervision

micro-credential development

Supporting career development for electrical workers

We’ve begun work towards developing a micro-credential aligned to the EWRB competencies for supervisors of prescribed electrical work. The industry has previously developed a set of competencies with support from Waihanga Ara Rau that will form the first draft of this micro-credential.

What we’re doing

Waihanga Ara Rau is developing a new Electrical Supervision micro-credential in partnership with tangata whai mana across industry, education, and regulation. We’re:

  • Engaging stakeholders through a targeted consultation and advisory process
  • Validating competency expectations and assessment methods
  • Ensuring the credential is adaptable across training providers
  • This project aligns with the current Electrotechnology Phase 1 – Skills Framework.

Why this matters

This micro-credential will establish a clear and trusted pathway for electrical workers to gain formal recognition of their supervisory skills. It supports safer worksites, stronger career development, and better alignment with regulatory expectations. Most importantly, it ensures industry voices shape how supervision of prescribed electrical work is defined, taught, and recognised.
