micro-credentials

review

What’s included in this part of the Building Pathways project

The review of the following Level 3 micro-credentials:

  • Basic Construction Skills
  • Demolition and Renovation Skills
  • Introductory Exterior Envelope Skills
  • Introductory Interior Linings and Joinery Skills
  • On-site Assembly Skills

Specifying which skill standards will be required to achieve these micro-credentials in the future.

The process we followed

We’ve consulted extensively with employers, learners, and providers throughout 2025 to gather your feedback on the current micro-credentials and opportunities for improvement.

We worked closely with our Technical Advisory Groups to design updated Construction micro-credentials based on the feedback we received.

We held a series of regional events and invited learners, employers, and providers to share their feedback. These events were focused on confirming that:

  • the skills within each micro-credential align with industry’s expectations
  • the proposed changes to improve the qualification pathway make sense
  • we strike the right balance between core skills and flexibility, so the micro-credentials work for different roles and situations.

The new qualification graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) have been reviewed and align with the newly developed core construction and carpentry skill standards.

Key updates to Construction micro-credentials

How this information is presented

This information is presented to show how the updated micro-credentials and mandatory skill standards will fit together.

The information in the table below includes:

  • Purpose – a description of who and what each micro-credential is for.
  • Component – these high-level statements describe what a graduate of the qualification will know, do and be. These have been updated to reflect the updated programme framework.
  • Learning outcomes and aligned skill standards – these are the standards ākonga (learners) will need to achieve to meet the learning outcomes, and ultimately the requirements of the micro-credential. We’ve updated existing standards to ensure they reflect current knowledge and skills. We’ve also developed new standards where required.
