Joinery Detailing Qualification and Skill Standards Development

Tell us what your industry needs

Waihanga Ara Rau and Master Joiners are working together with industry to develop a Joinery Detailing qualification that will meet a gap in the current suite of joinery qualifications.

To develop this qualification, we would like your feedback on the skills, knowledge, and attributes required by Joinery Detailers.

Some suggestions might be:

  • Work with the design and sales team to confirm client joinery requirements.
  • Interpret legislation, plans, working drawings, hardware, appliance details, site measurement and conditions, and specifications to make effective judgements about the design and structural integrity of the joinery work.
  • Analyse joinery processes, machining, and installation requirements to ensure detailing designs meet job and site requirements.
  • Confirm detailing requirements with the production manager or technical lead for joinery work manufacturing and assembly to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Use design joinery production software to produce accurate drawings and cutting lists, ordering requirements, and digital file outputs.
  • Communicate with the production manager, contractors, installers, and relevant personnel and record any design issues, or improvements.
  • Implement improvements for library systems, and update with new technologies and software to reduce re-work and improve consistency.
