New Disability Action Plan sets direction for a more inclusive industry 26 June 2025 Waihanga Ara Rau has launched a Disability Action Plan to help drive real change for disabled people working in, or connected to, the Construction and Infrastructure (C&I) industries. Created with a “nothing about us without us” approach, the plan aims to shift mindsets and systems, not people, by focusing on accessibility, inclusion, and equity across training, employment, and industry capability. We know our sector is stronger when everyone can participate and thrive. That’s why this plan isn’t just about compliance, it’s about leadership. It offers practical guidance for employers, education providers, and industry organisations to help remove barriers, build confidence, and better support disabled people, including tāngata whaikaha Māori and disabled Pacific peoples. The Disability Action Plan is structured around four key areas: building industry capability to confidently employ and support disabled people ensuring qualifications and training are flexible and accessible strengthening our own organisational culture and practices partnering with disabled communities to improve outcomes together Whether you’re an employer, trainer, policymaker or involved in workforce development, this plan is for you.
