The Waihanga Ara Rau Workforce Development Council will be closing operations from 19 December, and disestablished from 31 December 2025. The Energy and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board; Construction and Specialist Trades Industry Skills Board; Electrotechnology and Information Technology Industry Skills Board will pick up its functions.

Micro-credential development

A new micro-credential has been developed for solar water heating and submitted to NZQA for approval in December 2025.

This project transitioned to the Construction and Specialist Trade Industry Skills Board to respond to any requests for further information and update stakeholders

Why is this important?

Solar water heating systems are installed throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand, and, despite the recent surge in popularity of photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar water heating systems continue to be in use across the country.

This micro-credential will enable operators to demonstrate competence in installing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining new and existing systems. We are in the final stages of development of the micro-credential and would appreciate your feedback.
